Taney County Cemetery Hoppers

In March 2000, a group of people met and became acquainted with each other, united in the common purpose of transcribing, researching, and preserving the cemeteries in Taney County which hold our ancestors.  One of these people was Bob Miley, who generously gave copies of his research to the others.

In June, 2002, this group of people formed the Cemetery Committee of the White River Valley Historical Society, with Jeff Michel as chairman.  Workshop meetings and cemetery hops are planned with these goals in mind:

1) to update existing transcriptions, conditions, and information about each Taney county cemetery
2) to protect all existing cemeteries in the county from destruction, and to research the known destroyed cemeteries
3) to provide oversight for all cemeteries currently without an association

Long-term goals include seeking funding to provide perpetual care, fencing, and signs for all cemeteries without these provisions at this time (Jul 2002).  There are over 125 cemeteries in the county, many of which are small family burials within subdivisions, rangeland, and national forest.

Because transcribing cemeteries is hard and dangerous to do with just one person, the Cemetery Hoppers have committed to updating all previous transcriptions, in the interest of making sure that all cemeteries are properly represented online.  We are also doing as much research as possible as "new" records become available.

If you see the logo above on a Taney County cemetery's page, you will know
that cemetery has been updated in the new millenium and revised as necessary.
If the Taney County Cemetery Hoppers logo is NOT on that webpage, the information shown is from other, possibly older research, and we cannot
vouch for its accuracy.
