Mills Boyd Mill--built by John Boyd on Long Creek in the late 1830s. Exact site unknown. Cedar Valley--built prior to the Civil War on the "Clevenger Branch" of Long Creek. Bought from Clarence K. Buckner by James B. Rice during the Civil War. By the early 1890s, the mill was owned by Reuben Kirkham, who sold it to Elmer Stires in 1896. The Cedar Valley post office was moved down Long Creek near its mouth about 1905; Mr. Stires opened a new post office at the mill site in 1906, naming it Oasis. About 1910, Robert E. Johnson owned the mill, who sold it in 1920 to C. Preston Mahnkey and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Prather. The floods of 1927 destroyed the mill, which was never rebuilt. The US Army Corps of Engineers acquired the property and townsite of Oasis and Cedar Valley in the mid-1950s, prior to impoundment of Table Rock Dam in 1959. Reeves' Mill--built by Malachi Reeves on Long Creek in the mid-1830s, near Denver, AR. |
